The New York Jets are set to install hair extensions for players in their locker rooms, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.
Rapoports first reported the news.
The Jets are the only team that has not yet made an announcement on the new hair extensions.
The NFL has yet to confirm whether they will use them or use a generic hair extension, Rapoporters sources said.
The hair extensions are not expected to be approved for use by the NFL until they are approved by league-mandated testing labs, Rapaport reported.
They are expected to replace the traditional hair extensions worn by some NFL players in locker rooms.
NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo first reported on the news earlier this week.
“The Jets said Thursday that it will be a long process to get hair extensions approved, and that there’s no timeline yet,” Rapopres reports.
“The team will be looking to get approval by the league and to find the right team to test it on, but no timeline is given.
The Jets have not yet said if they plan to wear the hair extensions out in the field.”
The Jets have been using hair extensions since the beginning of the season.
The team began wearing them at the beginning and end of the regular season.
Injuries forced the team to switch to a more traditional style of hair extension during the regular-season, and they did not wear them in the playoffs.
The team was expected to wear hair extensions throughout the regular seasons, but it was not widely noticed.
“There’s a good chance they won’t be seen,” Rapapres said.
“We’ve been told the team will wear the new extensions out on the field, but they will be worn out by the players.
It’s not really a new thing, and it’s going to be a very big deal to see the team wear it out.
I’m not sure how long they’ll be on the sidelines, but we’re going to have to wait and see.”
The Giants announced Thursday that they will also use the hair extension.
Rapaports sources said the team plans to use the extensions out of the locker room.
Rapaports report is based on a person familiar with the matter.
